Senior Deputy Phillip Barron Jr. died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 while serving as a School Resource Deputy Sheriff at Liberty Academy, 1110 Sam Houston Drive, Victoria, Texas.  Deputy Barron served with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office for eight years.  He previously served with the Victoria Police Department for 25 years.  Deputy Barron is survived by his wife and three children.


Sergeant Timothy G. Olsovsky

VCSO Patrol Sergeant Tim Olsovsky suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting night qualifications at the department's shooting range. He had just finished his second relay of shooting when he began to feel ill. A short time later he became unresponsive and EMS was called to the scene. He was transported to Citizens Medical Center where he passed away.

Sergeant Olsovsky had served with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office for 13 years and had previously served with the Hallettsville Police Department for 11 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter. In 2020, the VCSO firing range was named in his honor.

Dallas Police Officer Henry Allen Brown

Dallas Police Officer Henry Allen Brown was killed after being struck by a vehicle as he was assisting a disabled motorist. Officer Brown stopped to assist the motorist in a torrential rainfall and was between his cruiser and her car when his cruiser was rear ended, pinning him and the motorist in between the two vehicles. He died later at the hospital. The motorist survived with minor injuries.

Officer Brown graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Victoria. Officer Brown is survived by his wife and 7 year old son. He had received 35 commendations since joining the department in 1990. Officer Brown was the grandson of longtime Victoria County Sheriff's Deputy Pete Brown.

Sergeant Terry Lee Jaynes

VCSO Patrol Sergeant Terry Lee Jaynes was killed in an automobile accident while he and another deputy responded to a major accident in rural Victoria County. Their patrol car struck a gravel truck that attempted to turn in front of them on SW Moody St. into a private drive. Sergeant Jaynes had been with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office for six years.

Deputy Sheriff Richard Kyle Hardesty Jr.

End of Watch: Thursday, June 5, 1975

Victoria County Deputy Richard Kyle Hardesty Jr. was killed when his patrol car collided with a train at Placedo, Texas at approximately noon. He was performing an emergency blood delivery from the county line to a local hospital. Deputy Hardesty had been with the agency for three months and was survived by his expectant wife and one child.

Deputy Sheriff Walter Murray Kibbe

Victoria County Deputy Sheriff Walter Kibbe was shot and killed while questioning a man for murder and for threatening to kill any officer who tried to arrest him. Deputy Kibbe was found with two rifle wounds. Although wounded, Deputy Kibbe was able to return fire.

The suspect was apprehended and charged with murder and lunacy. Deputy Kibbe was survived by his wife and four children.
